Mission Statement

We strive to provide each and every young rider with a wonderful riding experience based upon mutual respect, safety and fun.

Amanda Currie-Poirier

Amanda has owned and operated the hugely popular Giddy Up Pony Camp since 2001.

• She has her levels in both English and western riding.
• She has helped operate pony camps and taught lessons at Amberlea Meadows in Leduc, Alberta and at the prestigeous National Equestrian Center in Canberra, Australia.
• More recently she spent a year training and working with, Cindy Matheson, an FEI coach and owner of Tea Hill Stables in Tea Hill, PEI.
• Amanda is a competitor in both the English and Western arenas with  numerous first and second place awards and ribbons to her credit.

Audrey Currie

Audrey Currie is the English Second Language (ESL) teacher for the camp. Audrey has over 30 years teaching experience. She has a Masters of Education, ESL Certification and is a Reading Specialist. Audrey teachers ESL overseas during the school year.

When ESL riders first attend camp, a reading, writing and speaking assessment will be administered and the results will drive the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening for each individual student.

Students will

• read for comprehension and fluency paying attention to stress and intonation.
• complete grammar exercises that support their daily writing.
• write in a journal every day and scrapbook their experiences at camp.
• learn recipes that they will prepare during the evenings with other campers.
• learn games that they will be encouraged to teach other campers.
• keep a portfolio of their work.
• read menus and order food in restaurants.
• ask prepared, everyday type questions at various places as they tour the island.
